Got questions about our internships? Have a look through the below and if you've got any further queries, just drop us line to firstname.lastname@example.org.
What is a voluntary internship?
An internship is similar to a volunteer role because there is no contract and crucially, it’s voluntary, so we don’t pay a salary. However we do reimburse out of pocket expenses for your travel and lunch.
How is an internship different to a volunteer role?
An internship is more structured and concentrated than a volunteer role. It’s for a set period of time and set hours each week, and the emphasis is on your learning and development.
It will be focussed on helping you get experience in all of areas of that job role, and you'll have set projects and defined areas of work whilst you’re with us.
How long is the internship?
We offer eight to twelve week voluntary internships and unpaid placements at two set times of the year; one starting in January and one starting in June. These vary from giving a minimum of two days a week for an internship to doing full time hours as part of a university placement. However, we are flexible and will always try to work around this if we can.
What does being an Intern mean?
Interns are defined as Tenovus Cancer Care volunteers. And as an Intern you're entitled to the same benefits, sign the same agreements and follow the same processes and policies as other volunteers and staff.
Can I apply for a job with you?
Although an internship with us doesn’t guarantee a job, like all our volunteers, Interns will be notified of any vacancies when they arise and you are able to apply for those, including those that are advertised internally. And our People and Development Team are always on hand to support you with the application process.
Of course, your time with us will give your application a real boost and the experience gained could lend itself well if a job was to come up.
Why do we recruit volunteer Interns?
It allows us to have streamlined recruitment campaigns at set times of the year. It gives us the opportunity to benefit from the input and insight of recent graduates, current students and/or those looking to work in the voluntary sector.
It allows us to engage and attract highly skilled candidates who can bring fresh ideas, creativity and enthusiasm. It also gives us the opportunity to complete projects or start new projects or campaigns that we wouldn’t be able to do otherwise.
How do I apply?
To apply, you simply need to fill in the form here. We may then ask you to send through a copy of your most recent CV to supplement your application.
If you’ve got any questions, or to request a paper copy of our application form, please contact our Volunteer Development Team on 029 2076 8323 or email email@example.com for more information.
Where will I be based?
Most of our internship roles are located at our Head Office in Llanishen, Cardiff. However there may be opportunities for some of your role to be carried out at home or at locations within your local community. As well as this we do have offices in Carmarthen and Flint. Please note the location that is stated on the role description before applying.
Do I have to have an interview?
We hold interviews for all of our internship roles. Firstly we may whittle down our applications and hold phone interviews before inviting final candidates to interview with our teams.
Our interviews are fairly informal, but allow us to find out more about you as well as give you the opportunity to find out more about us and assess whether the role is right for you, before we make an offer.
