More than 2,500 chemotherapy treatments delivered Closer to Home in 2017/18
The figures are in and 2017/18 was a very busy year on board our Mobile Support Unit 1!
Thanks to a generous grant of £150,000, the Garfield Weston Foundation helped us to facilitate 2,634 chemotherapy treatments on board Mobile Support Unit 1 in 2017/18, the second highest amount that have taken place in any financial year to date.
Funders like the Garfield Weston Foundation have helped keep Mobile Support Unit 1 on the road since it launched in February 2009, helping cancer patients and their loved ones to access treatment, care and support. Over the past eight-and-a-half years, more than 16,000 chemotherapy treatments have been administered on board – Mobile Support Unit 1 really does bring cancer care closer to home.
An incredible 3,132 people visited Mobile Support Unit 1 last year, from those seeing it for the first time at the Snowdonia Marathon to patients having their last chemotherapy treatment. But the Mobile Support Unit is about more than treatment; 126 patients took up the option to get help with money worries on board, including debt advice, or had concerning questions resolved by our experienced nurses. This is in addition to the emotional support given by those who make the Mobile Support Unit happen – our wonderful Mobile Unit Team.
As ever, our sincere thanks go to the Garfield Weston Foundation and all of our amazing supporters who help us to make a difference every day on board Mobile Support Unit 1.
