Join Our Sun Safety Campaign
Thank you for accessing our Here Comes the Sun teaching resource, we hope you’ve found it beneficial.
It’s the time of year when the sun is starting to come out and we need to think about protecting our children’s sensitive skin. Malignant melanoma is an aggressive type of skin cancer which is becoming more and more common, but preventing our children from getting sun burn from a young age helps reduce their risk of this type of cancer later in life.
Did you know…
- The rate of melanoma has increased fivefold in the last 40 years.
- Malignant Melanoma is the second most common cancer affecting people aged 15-34.
- In the UK around 13,000 melanomas are diagnosed every year with over 2,000 deaths.
We all enjoy the summer, and there's nowhere more beautiful than Wales when the sun shines. We want people to enjoy the sun safely so that they can avoid the risk of skin cancer and enjoy many more summers to come.
This year as part of our Here Comes the Sun campaign our Suncream Van will visit a variety of outdoor events through the summer raising awareness of how we can protect our skin in the sun. Our Tenovus Cancer Care Shops are also helping us to spread important sun safety messages by providing information and giving away free sun cream over the summer.
