Our people are really important to us. So, we think it’s super important to help them look after their health and wellbeing so they’re happy here.

Looking after our people

The wellbeing of our people is so important to us. We know that without our people feeling well and keeping as healthy as they can we simply couldn’t do our best work. We work hard to keep everyone happy while they are volunteering with us especially as it’s more than a volunteering role for a lot of people who support us.

We try our best to support healthy hearts and happy minds by getting together as we’re a community – one big family. And we care. We try to be inclusive in everything we do to support people’s mental and physical health and wellbeing so they feel good.

Our commitment to look after our people

We take being responsible for all our people seriously. That’s why everything about Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities and promoting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is important for us and we simply don’t tolerate discrimination or put people in harm’s way. You can read more about this here.

Why Health and Wellbeing is so important to us

We’re there for the good times, and the bad ones, ready to look out for one another. We like to talk. We like to support. We like to make sure our people are feeling the best they can to make all the difference to the work we all do here.

Our Health and Wellbeing activities give us that warm, fuzzy feeling to make us smile. Whether that’s together virtually, in person or some other way we’re always looking for new ways we can look after each other.

What does that look like?

We have lots of different ways of being there for everyone whether that’s working or having fun. And, we’re always looking for new opportunities to communicate across our volunteer network and use technology where we can to do this.

So, we’ll send regular volunteer news emails so you know what’s going on. We also have an induction programme which allows you to learn more about the charity, your role and meet all the people you will be working with.

People use words like FUN, FRIENDLY  and FAMILY when talking about being part of things here and we love to welcome people warmly.

You’ll find our shops are happy places where you’ll see our staff and volunteers not only selling our donated stock but putting on fundraising events from doing tombolas to sponsored head shaves and sometimes wearing fancy dress and supporting our campaigns.

One of values is ‘Supportive’ and that’s how our Volunteer Supervisors work with our volunteers. If our volunteers need help and support we’ll help wherever we can whether that means linking with other organisations to get the right support, offer advice or following our own processes to make sure the volunteering experience is as good as it can be.
