We fund a range of cancer support services which are available for free, to anyone affected by cancer. This includes our free Support Line which is open 365 days a year, our Benefits Advice service, our Sing with Us choirs and our Mobile Support Units, which bring cancer treatment closer to home.
Prevention and education
Research shows around 40% of all diagnosed cancers in the UK could be prevented by simple changes to lifestyle. Eating healthily, exercising, not smoking, drinking responsibly, and staying safe in the sun, all help reduce the risk of cancer. Find out more about Healthy Living.
Policy and influencing
Government policy has a huge impact on our lives, making our communities healthier, affecting the speed of diagnosis and treatment, and improving how people live with and beyond cancer. Our Policy work gives us a voice, which we use to influence Government to help those affected by cancer.
We’ve funded life-saving and life-changing research for over 50 years. We’re finding new ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat it, as well as striving to find innovative ways to improve the lives of people living with cancer today.
We need to spend money to generate money, so each year we organise events, campaigns and fundraising programmes to generate vital funds. A main area of focus for us is sustainable income, which helps generate money we can rely on. We also continue to look at reducing costs, and streamlining our fundraising activities to maximise impact, for the money spent.
We also spend money on our retail network which generates around £5 million each year, as well as helping to raise awareness of our work, out in the community. It’s important that we continue to invest in our shops to help maximise their efficiency and profitability, while giving the best customer experience.
We’re committed to keeping our administration and overhead costs as low as possible and are always looking at ways to improve how we work and maximise the use of our resources.
Behind our services, research and fundraising activity, a hard-working team of support staff make things possible. Without our Finance, Volunteering, IT and Marketing and Communications Teams, we simply couldn’t keep the wheels turning.
We also spend a small amount each year on governance and managing our investment income.
