On Saturday 28 September, Tenovus Cancer Care proudly launched a new collaboration with 5k Your Way, a national group dedicated to promoting physical activity among people affected by cancer.
With the aim of encouraging and empowering people to engage in physical activity as a means of improving their overall wellbeing during and after cancer treatment, 5k Your Way hosts monthly meet ups and runs alongside the national parkrun programme.
The pilot initiative saw two simultaneous events held in Prestatyn and Porthcawl. Participants had the flexibility to engage in activities “their way” - whether by walking, running, volunteering, or simply supporting others. This inclusive approach ensured that everyone could participate in a manner that suited their individual needs and preferences.
Evidence increasingly supports the positive impact of exercise on people living with cancer. Physical activity not only helps individuals become fitter before starting treatment but also improves their ability to cope with treatment and maintain better fitness levels throughout.
Despite these benefits, accessibility and lack of information often prevent individuals from participating in physical activities. The collaboration between Tenovus Cancer Care and 5k Your Way aims to bridge this gap by providing accessible and supportive spaces for those affected by cancer.
