Chief Executive, Judi Rhys MBE, finalist in Womenspire Awards

We are very proud to share our Chief Executive, Judi Rhys MBE, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Woman in Health & Care category, as part of Chwarae Teg’s Womenspire Awards.

The Chwarae Teg Womenspire Awards showcase the remarkable accomplishments of women across Wales with the aim of inspiring future generations. The Woman in Health & Care award is for a woman who has set a shining example across any aspect of health or care, from medical and support staff to training and educational roles.

The nomination and shortlisting recognises Judi’s contribution to the health and care sector over the last four decades. As Chief Executive of Tenovus Cancer Care, Judi is responsible for giving help, hope, and a voice to people affected by cancer. Her creativity and conviction has led to some truly ground-breaking innovations and achievements.

Since her appointment as Chief Executive at Tenovus Cancer Care in 2019, Judi has shown exceptional leadership, not just within the charity but across the cancer community. Her passion for tackling health inequalities has led to a number of successful campaigns highlighting important issues and, ultimately, improving outcomes for people affected by cancer in Wales.

As well as developing opportunities for women in the sector and mentoring aspiring leaders, most recently, Judi made an important contribution to the Health and Social Care Committee’s inquiry into gynaecological cancers.

Judi brought the voices of women, who felt ignored or dismissed by the healthcare system, to the forefront of the inquiry and did so with great compassion and empathy. She brought the systemic failure of women to the attention of the Committee, encouraging them to reach findings to help ensure women found in similar situations in the future do not face similar experiences or outcomes.

Judi said: “I am grateful and honoured to be nominated and shortlisted for a Womenspire Award.

“At the heart of this achievement are all the amazing women I work alongside and represent – from my trusted colleagues and generous volunteers to the dedicated healthcare professionals and brave women affected by cancer. By coming together, we can make a real difference.

“Congratulations to all the other wonderful women nominated who have achieved such great things.”

Now in its eighth year the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at Tramshed Cardiff on Thursday 9 November 2023.
