Tribute to Prof George Stevenson

Tenovus Cancer Care pays tribute to Professor George Stevenson - one of the founders of cancer immunology - who sadly passed away last month.

Tenovus Cancer Care Chief Executive, Judi Rhys MBE, said:

We were sad to hear the news of Professor George Stevenson’s death.

George passed away peacefully in Oxfordshire, aged 89. He was born and grew up in Sydney, attended North Sydney Boys’ High, Sydney University Medical School and was pathologist at Prince Alfred Hospital.

He won a Nuffield PhD scholarship to Oxford University in 1962, then with his wife, Professor Freda Stevenson, established the Tenovus Cancer Research Group at Southampton University.

We are extremely proud to have supported his work investigating leukaemia and Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma over many years at Southampton.
