For NHS Wales to provide a bilingual service in Wales, medical documents such as health questionnaires need to be translated into Welsh. Iaith mewn Iechyd is a group of volunteer Welsh-speakers who help test Welsh translations of questionnaires used across NHS Wales.
After translating a medical questionnaire into Welsh, the translation needs to be tested to ensure that it is easily understood by all Welsh speakers and that it has the same meaning as the English version.
This process involves engaging in an informal conversation with a friendly NHS staff member, where you will be asked to read through the translation together and compare it to the English version.
You do not have to be very knowledgeable about Welsh translation or grammar, they just want your honest opinion on what the Welsh text means and if the language is clear.
