What do participants need to do: Children or young people who have had a cancer diagnosis, and their parents to complete separate online surveys at two timepoints: when they come onto the study and 6 months after.
How long will it take? 15-20 minutes at each time point, approximately 40 minutes total.
Will participants get paid? Vouchers to sum of £10 per time point (now and in 6 months’ time). Therefore a total of £20 in vouchers per participant.
Is this for research, policy or services? Research
Who can take part? Any child or young person between the ages of 8-24 who have had a cancer diagnosis and their parent (It is important that both are happy to participate in the study because they are interested in the shared experiences of perceived injustice in cancer related pain). The child or young person can be currently receiving or have received cancer treatment in the last 5 years.
Deadline: 30 April 2027
Location: Online
Researchers from the Centre for Pain Research at the University of Bath are inviting children and young people (8-24 years of age) who have a cancer diagnosis, or have been treated for cancer within the last 5 years, to participate in a questionnaire study with two time points: now and in 6 months’ time. They are also asking for parents of these children and young people to participate so that they can get a better understanding of some of the shared, similar and different experiences and understanding of cancer-related pain and how these impact important cancer-related treatment outcomes.
The main aim of their research is to understand how feelings of unfairness from children/young people and their parents about the child/young person’s cancer-related pain predict important outcomes in treatment, lifestyle, family and mental health. As such, they are looking for children/young persons and their parent to both participate in the study.
The study will involve:
- Completing separate sets of questionnaires online for 20 minutes across two timepoints (40 minutes total) about their cancer, cancer related pain, mental health and wellbeing.
- Participants will be paid £10 in vouchers for each completed timepoint, meaning £20 total in vouchers per participant (£40 total per child/parent dyad). A valid email address is required to be able to receive payment.
By participating in this research, you will help researchers to understand and pin-point key psychological and psychosocial factors that are important in making sure that children/young people with cancer have the best support possible during and after treatment.
