Our Friends of Tenovus Cancer Care groups are passionate supporters who come together to help raise funds and awareness of what we do, out in the community.

Each year they raise around £150,000 to help us support cancer patients and their loved ones.

What does a Friends of Tenovus Cancer Care group do?

  • They fundraise in the local community in lots of innovative ways
  • They help spread the word about our cancer support services
  • They encourage people in their local community to support our work

Stay safe

Due to the ongoing pandemic we have had to adapt the way we work with everyone, to make sure we keep everyone safe.

Your safety is paramount to us here at Tenovus Cancer Care, so we are making sure we keep up to date and follow government guidance in relation to our work and activities. We’ve put together some information for you here on how you can stay social and safe according to the latest guidance.

You can more about how some of our wonderful Friends have been fundraising safely during the pandemic.

After receiving treatment for breast cancer, Jane joined her local Sing with Us choir, Cardiff North. Along with other members of the choir, they formed the Rhiwbina Friends of Tenovus group and have been putting on events, bake sales, pantomimes and raffles ever since.

During lockdown, realising she couldn’t put on her annual Fashion Show, Jane found a way to turn her creativity and passion for fashion into an online fundraiser instead.

With the help of some donated clothing, her trusted mannequin, a steamer and some fantastic styling, Jane launched a Facebook Fashion Show. She uploaded photos of each item for sale, along with the sizing and price and very quickly sold them all! Fast forward a few months, 15 fashion shows later and some very eager shoppers, Jane, with the help of the Rhiwbina Friends, has raised £2,500. But more than that, it has given her a purpose and some positivity to focus on during lockdown. “I just can’t sit still… I like to keep myself busy! I really enjoy styling the clothing and knowing the money raised will help people when they’re going through a tough time is all the motivation I need!”

Throughout the last year, Aberdare FOT have been looking for new ways to raise money and they came up the fantastic idea of asking people in their community to record videos of them performing musical instruments and singing. These were released on Facebook for October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month and December for festive fundraising and asked people to make online donations. These were hugely popular and not only helped to raise funds but the charity’s profile online too!
