We all know the old saying, “If you don’t ask, you don’t get”. Well fundraising is exactly that. You’ll be amazed at how many people are willing to help when they know what they're fundraising for and why.

Here’s some simple ways to maximise your fundraising.

Have fun!

Dying your hair, shaving your head, running a relay, baking a mammoth cake, having a dance-along or sing-athon, the list of fun and creative ways you can raise money is almost endless, so use your imagination! If you’ve chosen to support us, we really want you to enjoy it and the more fun you’re having, the more you’ll be inspiring others and the more you’ll raise!

Sponsorship

If you’re organising or taking part in any type of challenge event, you or your participants could ask friends and family for sponsorship. You can request sponsorship forms, download a copy or find see below about setting up your online fundraising page.

You could also ask a local company to sponsor your event or activity and help cover any costs. In return you can include their logo on any materials, mention them if you speak to the local press, or let them speak or have advertising at your event. We have a template letter available on request but if you need more advice please give us a call on 029 2076 5580.

Charity discounts and gifts in kind

Often once a company knows your fundraising for charity, they may offer you their products or services for a lower price, or even free. Many people have been directly affected by cancer, and it’s a cause which resonates deeply. Think about asking about discounts or gifts in kind when you’re looking at venue hire costs, event fees for performers, catering costs, or printing. You can offer to include a company’s logo or product in any event or fundraising materials or acknowledge their support in speeches or talks.

Support with raffle prizes

If you’re holding an event, but sure to include a raffle and ask local businesses to donate prizes. It’s a bit of free promotion for them, and can really help increase your fundraising. Think about local hairdressers and beauty salons, florists, bakers, photographers, gift shops, garden centres, restaurants, cafes and bookshops.

Match funding - double your money

Matched funding is a simple idea where lots of banks and organisations match the amount raised during an event. It may be something you could ask if your employer does, or visit your local banks to see if they’re willing to help. It means that some or all of the money you raise can be matched pound for pound. We have a match funding template letter available on request but if you need more advice, feel free to phone us.

Gift Aid it!

Remember, for every £1 that’s donated (provided the donor is paying tax at the time of their donation) HMRC will give Tenovus Cancer Care an extra 25p. If you’re using an online giving platform, they’ll prompt the donor to click the ‘gift aid it’ button so it’ll be done automatically. If it’s offline fundraising, there are certain details you’ll need to collect in order for us to claim it, so please get in touch to find out more or click here.

Set a target

Telling people about how much you want to raise, and what you’re fundraising for can really help your fundraising. If people know that you’re getting close, and that their donations will get you that little bit closer, they can be more likely to give!
