Celebrating people for being their authentic selves

At Tenovus Cancer Care we aim to be an effective, resourceful, proactive charity where every staff member and volunteer is dedicated to the work we do in supporting people affected by cancer. We know our people are key to our success and we strive to have an open workplace that’s welcoming, inclusive and celebrates people being their authentic selves.

Putting it simply, we’re people who share the same values, we’re there for each other and we like being together. So, its only natural we allow space for a variety of staff networks set up and led by our staff to bring people together, collaborate to make a difference and support, help and encourage each other.  It’s a way we make sure we’re truly inclusive and create a welcoming environment where everyone feels respected and has a voice.

Having the support and buy in of our senior Managers is essential to the success of our networks. We encourage our staff to get together in a safe space to discuss issues and to help raise awareness within the wider organisation. We want to give our people a voice and listening to our network allows us to learn and better understand experiences and perspectives within the charity.”

Julie Rees, Director of People and Development at Tenovus Cancer Care

We’ve not been surprised but still super proud that people who work here have relished the opportunity to join or set up a staff network. So, we want to celebrate the diversity of our staff, how our staff value inclusion and their passion for openness and promoting equity not just among our staff but across the communities we work with.

You’ll see us getting together in our downtime with a Menopause meetup, performing and parading at Pride events, or as part of our daily work delving into diversity topics and exploring how we can expand our community connections.

You’ll also find us celebrating, learning and supporting each other in the neurodiversity landscape and our LGBTQ staff network having meet ups and being a connection point. There’s even time for a lunchtime ‘cuppa and chat’ to practice our Welsh language with ‘Paned a Sgwrs’.

It’s not just a brilliant opportunity to support diversity and inclusion but a way of teams coming together to make a difference and promote understanding. We’ve always got room for more too, so the future is something we’re super excited about.

We’re proud of our people and give a heartfelt thank you to each and everyone of our staff who spend time so passionately in being part of our staff networks. It’s through them as well as our supporters where we fly the flag for our stance on equality, diversity and inclusion spreading our message of openness and welcome wide across all the communities we work with when it comes to cancer.
