Tenovus Cancer Care Joins Pride Cymru 2023: Spreading Love and Inclusion

Over the weekend of 17 and 18 June, Cardiff was ablaze with vibrant colours, infectious energy, swarms of confetti and bubbles with a strong message of inclusivity as the city celebrated Pride.

Among the many organisations that participated in this remarkable event, Tenovus Cancer Care made a memorable presence, showcasing our commitment to acceptance and support for the LGBTQIA+ community. From the lively parade to our vibrant stall at Cardiff Castle, we made a resounding statement - ’cancer doesn't discriminate, and neither do we.’

On Saturday 17th of June, as the Pride parade danced its way through the streets of Cardiff, Tenovus Cancer Care took centre stage. Leading the charge was none other than Carl, also known as Etta Banquet, the charismatic manager of our Clifton street shop. Adorned in fabulous drag attire, Carl's presence was impossible to miss.

Accompanied by an uplifting playlist of well-known songs such as Gloria Gaynor’s ‘I Will Survive’, the Tenovus Cancer Care team exuded enthusiasm and inclusivity as we sang along loudly and passed stickers and leaflets to onlookers. Bubbles floated through the air, giant rainbow flags fluttered, and a trolley equipped with a speaker and microphone ensured that our message of support reverberated throughout the whole of Cardiff.

Tenovus Cancer Care's participation in Cardiff Pride extended beyond the parade as our stall at Cardiff Castle served as a hub of support, where individuals could access information and resources as well as talk to our Support Line nurses. Our experienced nurses were there to answer questions and provide advice to those who needed it. Whether discussing concerns about treatment, managing side effects, the Support Line nurses were on hand to make sure every individual felt heard and supported.

In addition to our support services, we held our Summer Raffle at the stall, giving individuals the chance to win cash prizes. To commemorate our remarkable 80th anniversary as a charity, 80 incredible cash prizes are up for grabs. This raffle added an extra layer of excitement to the stall, engaging participants and raising funds to continue our work in the community.

Our participation in Pride Cymru 2023, with its emphasis on support for the LGBTQIA+ community, aligns with our overarching mission of to give help, hope and a voice to everyone affected by cancer.
