Public Health Wales is currently conducting a qualitative research study titled Perceptions of Smoking, Health, and Cessation in Older Adulthood. The study explores the experiences and views of adults aged 55–74 who currently smoke or who have quit smoking within the last five years.

They are inviting eligible adults living in Wales to take part in interviews conducted online via Microsoft Teams. The interview will last no longer than 1 hour and will be audio recorded. Before the interview, participants will be asked to complete a short anonymous survey covering age, gender, ethnicity, smoking or vaping status, and health status. The survey can be provided in Welsh. Interviews will be conducted in English, but participants may request the interview questions in Welsh in advance.

The study aims to better understand experiences of smoking in later life, views on health and wellbeing, social influences, thoughts on smoking cessation support, and views on lung cancer screening.
Participation is entirely voluntary, and participants may skip any questions they do not wish to answer. As a thank you for your time, participants will receive a £35 shopping voucher, emailed within two weeks of completing the interview.

A full Participant Information Sheet and consent form will be provided to those who express interest. This study has received a favourable ethical opinion from the Cardiff University School of Social Sciences Research Ethics Committee (reference 850).
