From Cardigan with love

This week marks Volunteers’ Week - an annual UK-wide campaign held to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers.

From helping in our shops and fundraising at events, to supporting our services and working behind the scenes in head office – their generosity, passion and dedication are at the heart of everything we do.

To commemorate the week, our fantastic Shop Manager in Cardigan, Cerri, has composed a very special poem.

Volunteering? What can I say?
It helps to pass the time of day.
It’s not just drinking tea you know,
And chatting to our friends, although
We seem to fit that in as well
As all the things we try to sell.
There’s coffee pots and cups with spots
And mugs of every size.
We’ve books for cooks and hooks & crooks,
Pyjamas, suits and ties.
A wedding dress, a veil and Yes!
A bridesmaid’s outfit too!
We dust the shelves, we pride ourselves
There’s nothing we won’t do.
If you’re retired, enquire, Inspire!
Be yourself and be admired.
Shake the buckets – raise some cash;
Run for fun – if that’s your passion;
Join the choir and sing out loud
With your friends or with the crowd.
Caring, sharing on the phone,
Helping those who feel alone.
What is it for, this life we lead
If we do not help those in need.
Make a difference, feel some pride
That you would not stand idly by.
You too can lend a friendly ear.
Seize the day and Volunteer!"
