I am currently in my second year studying Marketing at the University of South Wales, and as part of my course I had the opportunity to complete a ten-week placement allowing me to put skills and knowledge into practice.
When a placement opportunity came up within Tenovus Cancer Care, it instantly caught my eye. Not only did the responsibilities within the role excite me, but the charity also holds a special place in my heart as I’ve lost both family and friends to cancer throughout my life. Being able to support and give back to a mission that has meant so much to me was important.
Like anyone starting a new role, I felt both excited and nervous, especially because this was my first glimpse into my future career. However, I quickly realised that I had no reason to be nervous because the whole team made me feel so welcome from day one and have continued supporting me throughout my time at Tenovus. Catrin, Carys and Alison have been a big part of my experience with the team, they’ve always given me a helping hand and encouraged me to get stuck in with different tasks.
During my time at the charity, I have been involved in a variety of projects, from capturing and editing social media content to drafting emails and blogs for the website. One of my favourite pieces of content that I wrote was for the Strictly Speakeasy which saw me researching 1920’s dances. I also enjoyed creating a fun video for Instagram to encourage volunteering. Nathan has also supported me a lot throughout my journey and his expertise in social media has helped me gain valuable knowledge and experience in digital content and influenced decisions about my future goals and aspirations.
