Joe runs Cardiff Half Marathon in memory of his two mums

Joe Knight took part in the Cardiff Half Marathon on October 04 to raise funds for us.

In memory of his mums Christine and Louise, who were both diagnosed with breast cancer and died when Joe was aged 5 (Christine) and when his dad remarried, he sadly lost his other mum (Louise) when he was just 19.

Louise received support from our services when she was going through treatment. The support she received has led Joe to lace up his trainers and run in aid of the charity so close to his heart.

Joe, 30, grew up in Cardiff near Roath Park and has fond memories of jogging around the lake with Louise when she worked as a primary school teacher at Roath Park Primary and Joe was still at school.

I have always wanted to be able to do a half-marathon, but always put it off until now. Not only am I not a runner, but I am fairly certain that I will not be doing another half marathon again.

It has been a long time coming. I wanted to take part in the city I used to live in, where the memories are very strong of both my mums who loved Cardiff so much.

“I’ve been putting in the practice, along with my friends Luc and Harry, who are also running with me for their own chosen charities, Browen’s Wish, a young people’s mental health charity.”

Joe, who works in cyber security in London, is due to get married in December, adds:

As it’s my first half I won’t be putting on any added pressure to try and complete in a fast time. As long as we get round that will be a bonus and to know we are supporting a great cause.
