Strictly star, Amy Dowden, joins as Patron

We are delighted to announce our newest Patron, Amy Dowden.

Caerphilly-born Amy Dowden was the first Welsh professional dancer to join BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, making her debut in 2017.

Amy recently co-hosted and performed at The Welsh Variety Extravaganza with husband Ben Jones to celebrate our 80th anniversary.

Inspired to support Tenovus Cancer Care because of her mother’s experience of cancer, Amy has also opened up about her own battle with Crohn’s disease and has worked to raise awareness of the illness.

Amy said:

I am proud to become a Patron of Tenovus Cancer Care, a cause very close to my heart. My Mum had thyroid cancer and breast cancer when I was younger, and it was tough to watch her go through it.

“It’s important to remember the affect cancer has on the whole family – it can be just as difficult watching your loved one go through it, and that can take a toll on everyone’s health. That’s why I want to support and raise awareness of the range of services available to everyone at Tenovus Cancer Care.

“I had a wonderful time recently co-hosting The Welsh Variety Extravaganza in aid of the charity’s 80th anniversary. It was amazing to get an insight into its achievements and rich history in Wales and I’m delighted to be a part of its future.”
