About the study
The GIFT Project (Understanding the Financial Impact of Cancer) at Queen’s University Belfast is inviting people recently diagnosed with cancer to take part in a UK-wide research study.
Cancer can affect people financially in different ways. Some people experience extra expenses, changes in employment or income, or financial worries, while others may experience little or no financial difficulty. People do not need to be experiencing financial problems to take part. The researchers want to hear from people with all types of financial experiences to understand why some people are more affected than others.
Who can take part?
The study is open to adults aged 18 or over who live in the UK and have been diagnosed with any type of cancer within the past 6 months.
What does taking part involve?
Participants complete four online questionnaires over one year, one every 4 months. Each takes around 15-20 minutes and can be completed from home. The questionnaires ask about areas including finances, work and income, wellbeing and quality of life.
Participants will receive gift vouchers as a thank you for their time
Why is the research important?
By following people over time, the researchers hope to understand how financial experiences change after a cancer diagnosis, why some people are more affected than others, and when support may be most needed.
