The UK national screening committee have so far not recommended the implementation of a prostate screening programme. This recommendation is based on the idea that the PSA test is not accurate enough to detect prostate cancer that needs treatment, can sometimes falsely detect men who do not have prostate cancer and miss some cancers.
This means that screening using PSA alone could mean that many men may have to undergo unnecessary tests and/or unnecessary treatment.
You can read more about this through this link to external review documents, and a thorough explanation of the screening by clicking this link.
If you have read these documents and want to share your views as a member of the public, or as a patient or family member of someone who has experienced prostate cancer, you are welcome to submit your comments around prostate cancer screening using this feedback form and they will be reviewed by the UK National Screening Committee.
