Since being diagnosed with breast cancer, Andrea has receiving treatment on board our Mobile Support Unit.
After noticing a small lump on her chest in 2007, Andrea was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has been receiving treatment on our Mobile Support Unit in Swansea for the past four years and despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer Andrea remains hopeful about life and the future.
Kevin is a member of our Swansea Sing with Us choir and Volunteer of the Year 2017.
Kevin and has taken part in a many running events to raise money for the charity since 2014, including the Cardiff Half Marathon and the London Marathon. He’s raised more than £36,000 for Tenovus Cancer Care so far and was named Volunteer of the Year in 2017.
Amy used our Benefits Advice service when her husband Jack was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Amy and Jack were living in Australia when Jack was diagnosed with a brain tumour. After returning to the UK to be closer to family, Jack suffered a stroke and faced a two year wait before receiving any financial support.
Following a shock diagnosis, Chrissie became a member of our Wrexham Sing with Us choir.
Chrissie’s diagnosis came as a shock to her family because she was eating healthy, exercising and teaching dance classes regularly. Cancer took away the thrill of dance for Chrissie, but she’s been able to find happiness in our Wrexham Sing with Us choir.
Mark is raising awareness that men get breast cancer too.
Both Mark and his wife have been affected by breast cancer. Mark’s diagnosis came as no surprise to him but he’s found that some men aren’t even aware that they can be affected by breast cancer. After his operation he was keen to support the charity and has produced illustrations for the Tenovus Cancer Care Research Team to display at exhibitions.

When he retired, Simon wanted to regain some of the structure he had throughout his working life. After two years of volunteering with the Benefits Advice team at Tenovus Cancer Care, he feels appreciated and is glad he’s able to make a difference.
Bethany completed an internship with the Events Team at Tenovus Cancer Care.
Bethany was an Events Management student at the University of South Wales in Treforest when she signed up to a 10-week internship with the Events Team at Tenovus Cancer Care. She supported the team on a fundraising project as part of the charity’s annual ball.
Gillian is an active member of her local Sing with Us choir and Llandudno Friends of Tenovus Cancer Care group.
Gillian took on 60 mountains in a year to celebrate her 60th Birthday while raising money for Tenovus Cancer Care. She’s an active member of her local Sing with Us choir and Llandudno Friends of Tenovus Cancer Care group.
Darren receives treatment on board our Mobile Support Unit closer to home.
Darren developed lymphoedema after having radiotherapy to treat his testicular cancer in 2007. He’s been visiting our Mobile Support Unit in Bridgend up to four times a year since for treatment, saving himself time and money on the two hour round trip to Velindre in Cardiff.
To prepare for surgery Jackie attended physiotherapy classes on board our Mobile Support Unit.
Jackie has been a smoker since she was 14 and always suffered with her chest. In March 2019 she developed a chest infection and a scan revealed a tumour in her lung. To prepare for surgery she attended physiotherapy classes on our Mobile Support Unit in Bridgend.
Susan received treatment on board our Mobile Support Unit.
Less than twelve months after losing her husband to myeloma Susan was diagnosed with breast cancer following a routine mammogram. She jumped at the chance to have treatment on our Mobile Support Unit after seeing the care her husband had received there.
Following her diagnosis, Saffron had her chemotherapy treatment on our Mobile Support Unit.
Saffron felt it was important to keep her two children informed about her treatment at an age where they can easily find answers online. She had her chemotherapy treatment on our Mobile Support Unit in Cwmbran and wants to raise awareness among other young people about the importance of checking for lumps.
Kenneth volunteers at our Maesteg shop to give back to the charity.
Kenneth began volunteering at the Maesteg shop because he wanted to give back to a cancer charity for the care his parents had received during their cancer treatment. He’s since been diagnosed with Lymphedema himself and uses our Mobile Support Unit twice a year.
Hoa volunteered at Head Office in her spare time at University.
Hoa had a great experience volunteering with our Marketing and Communications team. Assisting the Digital Content Producer, her role involved helping service users, volunteers and supporters to share their story for use in press and social media.
Ilyes completed a work placement at Tenovus Cancer Care.
Ilyes undertook a five month, full time work placement with us organised through the European Training Services as part of his studies in Paris. As a French national, the placement is intended not only to help improve his English but to put his skills into practice.
Meet Dr Alan Parker
Tenovus Cancer Care funded a research project managed by Dr Alan Parker.
Dr Parker is a Senior Lecturer within the School of Medicine at Cardiff University. His research group aims to find new treatments for cancer by engineering viruses to only affect cancer cells.
Rochelle is a Tenovus Cancer Care funded PhD student at Cardiff University.
Rochelle is a Tenovus Cancer Care funded PhD student at Cardiff University. She’s specifically looking into how breast cancer spreads, and how we can develop new drugs to help more people survive secondary breast cancer.
Ginny called our Support Line to talk about her diagnosis and treatment.
Ginny didn’t have anyone to openly talk about her diagnosis and treatment with. She had concerns for her daughter’s future and questions that needed answering. Ginny called our Support Line and through regular contact it gave her answers and moments to reflect.
